The Gold Dollar

The Gold Dollar was a bar and live music venue located on 3129 Cass Avenue in Cass Corridor in Detroit, Michigan, and was owned and operated by Neil Yee. The venue was primarily dedicated to showcasing eclectic local music from then-up-and-coming bands. It opened on August 3, 1996 and closed on August 18, 2001.
The White Stripes played their first show at the Gold Dollar on Friday, August 15, 1997, opening for The Insects and The Hentchmen. The band eventually played their first headlining show there on February 7, 1998, opened by the Soledad Brothers. Many other notable Detroit acts, including the Electric Six, the Detroit Cobras, and The Paybacks also started out playing here.
