History

Meg was born Megan Martha White on December 10, 1974 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Before she was the drummer for The White Stripes, she was a bartender at Memphis Smoke, a barbeque restaurant in the Detroit, Michigan suburb of Royal Oak. It has been said that bourbon is her favorite beverage. Despite various claims by the band, Meg and Jack White are not brother and sister, but are in fact ex-husband and wife. Meg met John Gillis in 1994, and they were married on September 21, 1996. Jack later took Meg's surname, but they later divorced in 2000.

Personal Life

Meg in action, playing the drums.

Meg is very shy in public, and will often usually never speak at all in interviews. Because of this, little is known about her personal life. Meg says that because of this, she relates to Bob Dylan, one of her favorite musical artists. But when she says something, Jack takes it 'into serious consideration'.

She either used to date, or is currently dating, Oliver from The Soledad Brothers. She was also spotted with Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White), bassist for Nine Inch Nails and former member of Marilyn Manson's band.

Meg is partially deaf in her right ear, and she usually wears a hearing aid.

Costumes/Looks

During concerts, she wears red trousers, or black as seen in Under Blackpool Lights, with a white shirt or red top. There are occasions when she dresses up, usually when the band is asked to appear in awards shows, i.e the Grammy's in which she wore a cream colored gown with a black leaf design. She wears little or no makeup. During the self-titled/De Stijl years, Meg was known for her long pigtails, and after White Blood Cells began to wear her hair down. In Get Behind Me Satan, she appears with her hair short and curled, contrasting her long straight hair in Elephant. During the Get Behind Me Satan era, when Jack started wearing a Jack the Ripper costume, Meg started wearing large cabaret dresses. She is known for drumming barefoot or wearing socks and only recently began to wear shoes, notably Pumas. When asked about it, she said that the years of drumming barefoot have torn up her skin. Overall, Meg has a modest yet glamorous sense of style.
