Danloc is a coastal city-state within the nation of Shatterhold in the world of Aervi. Built on the mouth of the Danloc River, Danloc is the northernmost port city in the nation.

As a city-state, Danloc maintains a greater degree of autonomy than many cities of Shatterhold. King Ro-K'Dan is the city's hereditary monarch, and members of his royal family hold high positions of authority in the city government. The city-state also maintains its own standing military force, independent of the military of Shatterhold. However, despite these indicators of independence, Danloc is wholly a part of Shatterhold, and Ro-K'Dan's rule is subject to the will of the High King.

Standard

The standard of Danloc is green with a thick blue vertical stripe down the middle and trimmed in yellow or gold. The green field on the left has three ears of grain pointing up, and the green field on the right has three swords pointing down. The blue represents the River Danloc; the grain represents the chief product and abundant land; and the swords represent peaceful defense and free-market trade. The whole is trimmed in gold to represent wealth.

In Battle at the Galenvale Dells

The heroes came to Danloc during a period of political and social unrest. Tre-Dan, First Prince of Danloc and Captain of the Guard, had fallen ill and was rumored to be dead. His brother Kor-Dan, Second Prince of Danloc, had taken over his position and brought in a new guard force of thugs and ruffians (see Black Guard of Kor-Dan). The Danloc River had been reduced to a trickle, and rumors spread like wildfire that dwarves had somehow diverted it or otherwise stopped its flow. The city was simmering, full of rage ready to boil over.

Several of the heroes and their friends were caught up in this turmoil. Some, notably the dwarves Hilgard and Bernard, were falsely imprisoned amid suspicions and accusations. All were assaulted and attacked without reason or provocation.

The unrest in Danloc and the personal fallout from it became extra motivation to search out the headwaters of the Danloc River, the rumored location of Galenvale. While there, the heroes discovered a plot by doppelgangers that involved fomenting unrest not only in Danloc but also among the dwarves and goblins living in the Whitefang Mountains. They were able to unravel the plot, but not before a great battle broke out in which the doppelgangers' forces were finally destroyed. With the plot undone and the deception revealed, Danloc once again became a peaceful city, and those who had been wrongly imprisoned there were released.
