Bernard is a dwarven priest of Moradin living in Kingsport. He is a nephew of Hilgard the wagonwright and joined his uncle's quest for Gavengard, hoping to see the ancient city as well as some dwarven cities, temples, and similar architecture. However, when Hilgard was falsely imprisoned in Danloc, and the authorities demanded that his friends find the cause of the interruption of the flow of the Danloc River if they wanted to see him released, Bernard abandoned the quest. Instead he tried to help his uncle from within the city, trusting the other members of their adventuring party to do what they could from up the river.
