The Goofs

Near the end of 2004, Chris Knight, Andrew Guichet, and Michael Magill joined together to create a superband known simply as the goofs. During their almost non-stop 'rock concerts' and CD releases over the next year, the Goofs rocketed to great success around SMES, selling 12 CDS. They divided the money between themselves and had a milkshake party.

[edit] Humble beginnings
The Goofs started one day in Chris Knight's library when the two other band members, Mike and Andrew came over to chill out. It has been said one of them said, "Chill out, this is what I do", although this remains speculative.
Originally the band consisted of only Andrew on guitar and vocals, and Mike on drums. Chris worked the studio as their sound engineer and recorded the session. He also brought them two Dr. Peppers because they were, "totally hankering for some soda."
During the duo's short history, they created one song, Casey the Dog, which was about Chris' dog, Casey. The song was poorly sung and often interrupted by hysterical laughing from Andrew Guichet as he responded to Chris holding Casey in the air next to Andrew. He made many insinuations that Casey the dog really smelt bad, but it could be argued that he was just being a big stupid jerk.
It quickly became apparent that neither Andrew or Michael had the tact or leadership to drive the band, and Chris took over. During their next meeting a week later, Chris created their hit single Be My Girlfriend in a single nonstop recording session. Chris took his position as the producer, lead singer, and keyboard. The song was burned onto CDs and given to Alex Miyawaki who played them in his car and made copies for other people.

Chris gained widespread exposure during the Spirit week's Karaoke contest when Ryan Brunswick took a copy of two songs Chris had recorded by himself. With an audience of 400 of Chris' friends, peers, and teachers, the song Pieces of Me by Ashlee Simpson, covered by Chris Knight himself was played much to his chagrin.
While Chris tried to hide outside with his Taco Bell, he could not help but go into the gymnasium where the song was being played. He entered to the applause of everyone, but was "totally embarassed!" He later added something along the lines of, "gosh!"
Rumors began to spread in the Winter of '04 that the Goofs would be releasing a full CD with lots of tracks, and the student body reverberated in it's relentless demand for Goofs music. Many band members couldn't take the pressure and one person said they saw Andrew 'Goofcheit' crying in his car with Goofs playing loudly in the background.
[edit] Recording sessions
Recording sessions were often impromptu and spurred by a phone call from Michael or Andrew, which was usually, "Lets Goof!"
All band members would usually go to Del Taco before the recording session, although this wasn't necessarily a requirement. Chris often had tons of food lying around the house, which he had no problem sharing with his super cute friends.
The recording itself was done on Chris' Dell XPS computer, a computer that even had a song written about it by none other than the Goofs themself. Most recording was done on Acid 4.0 on a two track recorder. Though Chris doesn't really want to get into it, he used the left track for the drums, and the right track for everything else.
The initial recording sessions didn't have the benefit of two tracks, and therefore often suffered from very distorted vocals and peaked everything.

Chris finished compiling all of the tracks one day, and with much encouragment from Alex, he burned a CD titled, "Still Goofy After all These Years". The album itself had a large picture of a band of robots that Chris drew himself one day in the library.
Chris spent a lot of time printing out the stupid labels for the CD and went to Staples himself to get the CDs for the album.
Consistency was not very good, as Chris tired of producing the nearly 30 CDs and their complicated labels. Two CDs did not actually have anything burned on them, and were just blank.
[edit] Breakup?
Following Chris' departure to Lehigh University, the band lost their frontman and struggled to keep up the tremendous energy and liveliness Chris had previously commanded. While not officially broken up, the band is on hold until Chris comes home the next time, which will probably be summer.

As SMES's first and only superband, the Goofs have created a legacy that is sure to live on for many years within the St. Margaret's Community and the world.
