Speed Chess

From Stmargarets

When one day, Scott Tranter(aka Kirby) brought a chess board and timer to school, a fad was immediately born. Before long students congregated during every lunch period and break to play games of blitz (5 minutes/side) and bullet (2 minute/side) chess. Quickly, Scott McEwan and Brendan Downes established themselves as the players to beat, though both readily admitted that the recently graduated Alex Huff was the greatest chess player in the history of St. Margaret's. Despite a valiant effort by Andy Forquer the speed chess trend died out soon after the class of 2002 graduated.

Recently, the class of 2006 has noticed a proliferation of many chess boards and an insertion of a new table in the Upper School administration office. This has led to the strange side effect of renewing the popularity of chess. Unfortunately, it is only a semi-resurrection, as it is not the exciting speed chess variant, rather the casual "no-rules" version.
