River Features Third Grade Lesson Rivers as part of the water cycle are an important aspect to global climate change. We chose to focus our lesson on river features to build background knowledge so that students can later fully understand climate change. This lesson aligns with the third grade GLE focusing on landforms.

Gear Up-we took an imaginery field trip along a river as a pre-assessment of student knowledge on river features.

Exploring -Each group worked together to create their own river. Their creation was unique and creative. The groups were able to demonstrate river flow to the rest of the class.

Assessment Task and Apply Activity

After the lesson, students will write a paragraph describing three river features. The students will also draw and label a picture of their river, take it home, and teach someone the features of a river.
