Downloading photos from your camera
1.) Turn the camera on. Connect the cord to the camera and to the USB port on the laptop computer.
2.) When the welcome screen for iPhoto appears, you will be asked if you want to use iPhoto when you connect your digital camera. Click yes.
3.) You will see a dialog box that indicates there are new Quicktime video tutorials for iPhoto. Click OK.
4.) You will see a screen that says: "Ready to import XX items." Select Delete after importing checkbox next to the import button, and select Import. iPhoto will ask if you really intend to delete the originals; click yes.
Preparing your photos for the Web
Because it's good practice to use low-resolution photos on the Web, use iPhoto to compress the photos.
1.) Start by clicking on the photo(s) you want to edit.
2.) Using the pull-down menus at the top, go to File->Export. Set the Format pull-down to .jpg. Select Scale images and set it to a width somewhere between 180-300 pixels (180 will allow for multiple pictures to be seen on the same row in your Web page later). It's OK to leave Use Filename and Use Extension selected. Click Export.
3.) Navigate to your Documents folder, rename the file (unless you are exporting multiple files), and click OK. If you exported multiple files at once, you may want to open a Finder window, navigate to the Documents folder and rename the files by selecting one, waiting a moment, then clicking it again to make the name editable.
Uploading your photos to your wiki site
1.) Using Firefox, go to the provided URL (in our case today, the STEP Institute Wiki 2007).
2.) Along the top right, select Create an account or log in. Log in using the Username and Password provided.
3.) Return to the the STEP Institute Wiki 2007, select Upload file along the left navigation bar. Note that at the top of the page that loads is a link to view all uploads. You may need to use this link if you forget what you've named your uploaded file. You also can review uploaded files by using the My Contributions link along the top of the page.
4.) Click Browse. Navigate to the Documents folder and click on the picture you want to load. Note down the Destination Filename, as you'll need it later. Remember that the name is case-sensitive. Click Upload File.
5.) Go to your team page (find the list at the STEP Institute Wiki 2007).
6.) To insert a photo on your team page, put the cursor where you want the picture to occur and click the "Embedded Image"
editing icon. Change the "Example.jpg" portion of the code to your filename. Remember that this is case sensitive.
7.) At the bottom of the page, select Show Preview to test your results.
8.) Select Save Page before uploading more photos or navigating elsewhere, or you may lose your changes.
