Pre-Deluge history and biography

Growing up in what seemed like the perfect household, a loving father, a devoted mother, a kind older sister and a cute younger brother, it seemed like Fuji Syusuke had everything he ever wanted. It didn't take long for the staff over at the local kindergarten to notice that there was something out of the ordinary with Syusuke and experts were notified, running a couple of tests on the child. It soon was made clear that the boy's IQ was well over average and he was well known as a genius.

He excelled in everything he did and since he had a special attachment to tennis, his parents allowed him to play and he won competition after competition, making a well known name out of himself at the tender age of 9. He then decided to take a short break and concentrate more on his school work, the break lasting until his parents decided that they'd move to Tokyo when he entered Junior High, to give him more opportunities to develop his talents.

As the family came to Tokyo, they were almost immediately well liked in the neighborhood, the father's winning and outgoing attitude charmed the women and the mother's slightly distant but always kind manners won the men over. Yumiko, the sister, was as kind as her mother and as witty as her father and the young men swarmed over her. Syusuke's calm kindness gave him a lot of friends and admirers. It was only the youngest child – Yuuta - that rubbed the neighbors the wrong way.

Everything wasn't as peachy keen as everyone was led to believe though. Syusuke's dad didn't treat his sons the way he should. He favored the older one; only talking to the younger if he wanted to reprimand him or tell him that why couldn't he be like his brother and the like. The brother – Syusuke – on the other hand, was showered with love. More love than he wanted to get, actually, especially when the love included late night visits, pain and humiliation…

Post-Deluge events

When the disaster hit, Syusuke watched all the people he cared about – Yuuta, his team mates in Seigaku's tennis team, Tachibana Kippei, the captain of another tennis team with whom he had a budding romance going on – being consumed in the huge tidal wave that washed over Tokyo as the Deluge hit full foce. Only those in Tokyo Tower survived, and Syusuke was there to take a couple of pictures for an art project.

He spent the following days trying to help the surviving recidents to find other surviors, to be of some help, and to find his friends, but it all proved furtile.

Syusuke's heart was shattered into tiny little pieces, he didn't know how to move on, what to do, his sole reason for living – Yuuta – was gone. Yet, Syusuke was a survivor, had always been, so he managed to pull himself together. He didn't feel like he could stay in Tokyo though, and the only thought that came to him was that he should try and at least travel to America for a brief period of time, informing their former team member Echizen Ryoma on what had happened.

Thus Syusuke arrived in the US right before the country was closed down because of the plauge.

When the horrible days were over and it looked like the Plauge wouldn't harvest more souls, the streets were littered with corpses, both human and animal. Syusuke entered a sort of numb state of being, where he woke up, ate, spent his days trying to find other survivors, and then went to sleep. He couldn't think ahead, didn't know what to do with himself other than the basics.

After a few weeks though, he started to feel the tug more and more, he was getting lonely, he needed to see other people. He was certain there had to be some survivors out there, since he had survived. He refused to believe that he was the only one, that he was the last person standing on the entire planet. And thus he set out to find other survivors roaming across the American wasteland.
