"Mook" is a catch-all term that refers to any organization studying the tapes or the curses. It usually carries negative connotations, but must not always be considered so. Most mook groups are not incredibly powerful, although it often seems that way to those who are having difficulty escaping them. Some may have government connections, but no known mook group is sponsored completely by the government of any country. Most mook groups, it seems, have less than 50 members. In general, most mook groups are either anti-tape or neutral towards the tape. A pro-tape mook group is more likely to be called a Tape Cult.
Types of Mooks
There are many different kinds of mook organizations out there which vary greatly. Here listed are some types that may be encountered.
- "Neutral" research groups that simply aim to learn more about the curse
- Groups that aim to learn about the curse by any means necessary
- Groups that aim to harness the curse for their own gain
- Groups that aim to destroy the curse by any means necessary
- Groups that, for whatever reason above or not listed, seek to destroy those with extensive knowledge about the real curse
Mook History
Mooks have gained bad reputation due to some mook groups' unconventional, even cruel methods. Certain organizations, especially pseudo-government ones, have been reported to have murdered, kidnapped, and conducted strange tests upon members. There are also many examples of them destroying homes and other property.
