[edit] Description

At first glance, Noranti seems to be little more than a mobile pile of rags. Once she uncovers her head, though, an old woman's face is revealed, covered in creases brought on by both age and environment. Her eyes are deep black, with very little white to be seen, while a beaklike nose perches itself over a mouth full of sharpened teeth. She stands at about 4'6", but seems even shorter since she's usually crouching.

The most noticable thing about Noranti, though, are her birds. A murder of crows have seemed to have adopted the old woman, and are often at her side. She seems to have names for them, but which bird has which name is hard to gather.

[edit] History

Little is known about Noranti among the citizens of Safehouse. She arrived one day, a murder of crows in her wake. She seems to know some things about the Times Before, but her knowledge seems to be buried under the offness of years of traveling alone.

However, Noranti knows much more than she puts on. Noranti Pralatong was a geneticist from India who took part in an international experiment in the early years of the century before the fires that cleansed the world. The experiment was one of somewhat dubious nature: led by an American scientist by the name of Francis Andrews, the collection of nearly sixty scientists took the data from the newly-completed Human Genome Project and began working on various genetic modifications which could be used to better mankind. The project was an astounding success, and was able to create a number of incredible abilities in their test subjects. Once the formulas had been properly tested, some of the scientists began to use them on themselves; Noranti herself modified herself to allow her to speak with any animal.

Of course, the nuclear attacks changed everything. The members of the project survived almost intact, but they quickly scattered after, thanks to both his own extensive modifications and the effects of the radiation, Andrews went insane and began rampaging through the project's facilities. Noranti retreated to a small sleeper cell that she had heard about before the news stopped, and slept for a time.

Ever since, she has taken to traveling what remains of the world; she spends about ten years awake, then another 5 sleeping. She has seen much through the years; the descendants of her compatriots collecting additional genetic material through any means necessary, the beginnings of the nomadic movements, those mutated by the fires that still burn. It has been a strange time, and she has changed much from her experiences.

Since her arrival:

  • During an encounter with some sort of robot, she referred to herself as Patron #346.

[edit] Personality

Noranti is, in a word, off her rocker. Well, in a phrase. Whatever. Whether from her life in the wilds, whatever ability she gained to speak with her murder, or some inbred trait which surfaced a long time ago, Noranti is, while kind overall, not quite right in the head. She constantly talks with her murder, and responds to their cawing; no one is sure, though, if they're actually saying anything.

Well, at least what she wants people to think. She is actually quite lucid, but learned some time ago that playing the dotting old woman made things considerably easier in this shattered world.
