Lagos

  • 1961-63 Richard A. Smith – “I was the first PC doc in the country with PC Nigeria 1, 2 and 3 (1961-63). PCVs were scattered all over the place so although I “lived” in Lagos, my rounds carried me from Sokoto to Maidugari, from Badagari to Calabar. I threw in the towel after one year and asked for help with 700 PCVs. Lyle and Connie Conrad came in 1962 to help with some of the early PC health needs (and other things that occurred with a new organization that had no rules in concrete and no SOPs). It was a great time…and like a lot of others in PC, changed my life.” (e-mail, 10-Apr-98)
