Riversend

From Repository

There is absolutely nothing remarkable about Riversend at all.

A fishing town located between Port Calin to the north and Goodharbor to the south, about the only thing that happens in Riversend are the fishing boats going in and out on their rounds, and the odd village boy with a dream in his eyes gallivanting off for adventure. There was that time that Steel Lotus Exalted as a Fire Aspect, and that was very exciting, but he got snatched up by the Seventh Legion and that was almost thirty years ago anyway.

In short, it's a town ripe for something momentous to happen to it, because this is Exalted and that's just what tends to happen in Exalted games.

[edit] Places

[edit] The Old Salt

A tavern meant to cater to sailors, merchants, fishermen and the odd traveler, the Old Salt is a bit... well, it's somewhat touristy in places, as it has a very heavy "pirate" theme and it was created about a century ago by a retired Guild merchant who'd never actually stood at the helm of a ship in his life. But having said that, it's a pretty okay place. The food doesn't sit longer than a day, the kitchen is mostly clean, and the alcohol isn't too watered down. Every now and then, there's a drunken bar brawl, but even the long-suffering inspectors in the Atsushi family's employ consider it all a bit of a lark, really.

[edit] Silk Blossom's

A brothel, and a surprisingly nice one. The "evening flowers" who work at Miss Silk's vary from two-dinar harlot to high-price courtesan, depending on what services the customers want and are willing to shell out good hard cash to have for a night. The brothel sits in the small harbor, across the cobbled street from The Old Salt, and its red paper lanterns wink across the promontory bay at night. Most of the time the customers are locals, sailors and Guild merchants, but every now and then some out-of-towner stops by for a roll in the hay before going on his way in the morning.

[edit] The Guildhouse

Probably a more grandiose name than this place actually deserves, it's a small office run by a single man, Nellens Razin. Somewhat plain and ramshackle, especially considering the unExalted Dynast that runs it, it's still kept in strict running order, and most of the personages and paperwork passing through the office are requisitions to other ports.

[edit] The Meeting Hall

Partially as a magnanimous gesture and partially because they are lazy sods who don't really want to deal with the day-to-day grind of running their patronage, the Atsushi family had a "meeting hall" constructed down in the square where an elected representative council could hear the complaints of the townspeople and settle any minor civil disputes. It also serves as the city courtroom where the lord or lady of the patronage sits in judgment over any wrongdoing, though any death sentences must be delivered by an official of the shogun himself.

[edit] The Big House

The locals' term for the Atsushi family home, located at the summit of a small hill overlooking the town on its western wing. True to its name, the manor is quite large and very fine by Riversend standards. Perhaps four hundred years old, the house sits in a lush forest, the only section visible to the road the elaborately wrought stone-and-jade gate closing the main entryway off to the public. While lovely and all, it's a rather mundane estate with no magical properties at all.

[edit] People

[edit] Han Yi Chen

A retired mortal officer of the Seventh Legion now working as Riversend's town magistrate. Despite his illustrious-sounding background, Chen never actually advanced beyond the rank of corporal, and spends a lot of his time wishing some kind of major crime would happen so he could do something cool again. Maybe pirates? Oh, oh, or a nice juicy murder...

[edit] Nellens Razin

The Guild's representative in Riversend. What he did to end up here, no one is really sure but there are plenty of rumors, most of them involving whores and booze.
