Basic Character Information
Entry Point
Jack is post-canon for Doctor Who and pre-canon for Torchwood. He enters Relative Space roughly one year after the events in "Parting of the Ways."
Physical Description
Gorgeous hunk of man. Seriously. Perfect face, perfect hair, perfect body, perfect teeth, perfect... everything. And doesn't he know it?
Six feet, one inch. Medium and very solid build. Brown hair, blue eyes, brilliant smile. Athletic, light on his feet, confident bearing.
Personality
Jack is confident, exuberant, lively, and engaging. Behind the ebullient exterior lies a shrewd and observant mind. Very little escapes Jack's notice. He's able to think fast and improvise in any situation. He'll try his best to talk or charm his way out of things, but failing that, he's not afraid to fight if he has to. He seems to have mastery of nearly every type of weapon or technology he's presented with.
To an outsider, Jack's interactions with the people around him may smack a bit of "hitting on anything that doesn't run away fast enough." He's typical for people of 51st-century Earth, however. The emphasis in their relationships isn't solely on bedding people or romance, or on making any sort of distinction on how to show affection. Rather, they've evolved past the need for labels or quaint moral codes and rules, and choose to embrace life in all its forms.
Jack may appear shallow to those who don't know him well, but he's passionate and protective. He's unafraid to demonstrate loyalty or affection for the people he cares about. He's capable of being as serious as the situation warrants.
History
Jack's history before meeting the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler in London, 1941, is unknown. He had taken on the persona of an American airman in military service during the Blitz. His real purpose for being there, however, was to run a con involving what he believed to be an empty ambulance ship. The idea was that he would lure a mark with the empty ship, convince them it was valuable, and then have it destroyed by a bomb due to land on that very spot after he collected payment.
The con game turned out to be anything but harmless, however, when nanogenes on board the ship got loose and began changing citizens in a misguided attempt to "cure" their "injuries." Jack helped the Doctor and Rose defuse the threat from the nanogenes, and to save the people congregated in the area of the ambulance, took the bomb meant to destroy it onto his ship, even though it meant risking his life. He was saved by being brought onto the TARDIS and joined the Doctor and Rose as part of the crew.
Jack revealed that he had been a Time Agent for a while, until the Agency erased an entire two years of his memories. At that point he had left the agency behind and become a freelancer and a con man, only out to serve and benefit himself.
While travelling with the Doctor and Rose, Jack foiled a Slitheen plot to use the Cardiff Rift to destroy the earth for profit and organised armed resistance against the Daleks on Satellite Five. His volunteer crew was decimated in the attack, meant to buy the Doctor time enough to construct a more effective offensive weapon. Jack was the last man standing from the defence force; he woke up after being shot just in time to hear the TARDIS dematerialising, leaving him behind.
Jack helped rebuild Earth after the aborted Dalek invasion, and had been there almost a year, completely unaware of what had happened to him, before he received the communicator sent to him with the activation of Protocol Twelve-Seven. In that time he found he no longer was able to sleep, nor did he seem to need it, and that he could heal from injuries inexplicably quickly and completely.
Additional Information
Random Facts
- Is partial to Glenn Miller records, hypervodka, and Chula warships.
- Hasn't slept since waking up on Satellite Five
- Heals quickly from injuries. Recently learned he is also incapable of dying--all injuries, even fatal ones, are healed.
- Was apparently made impervious to injury, fatigue, or death by his resurrection by the Time Vortex.
- Was killed while on holiday with Jax Macbrennan by a jealous ex-husband of a woman he'd seduced in that sector some years back.
OOC-only Character Information
- Jack wasn't sure why he had been left behind on Satellite Five. At first he feared it was because he hadn't measured up somehow; his talk with the Tenth Doctor helped assuage a lot of that.
- Jack's been avoiding deep personal connections with people since his resurrection. He feels alienated and alone and doesn't think anyone could ever understand or accept what he is now, and therefore isn't willing to risk setting himself up to be hurt.
- That decision has led to a great deal of internal conflict. Jack is by his very nature a compassionate man; choosing to distance himself from people means he has to deny that part of himself, which makes him even more miserable.
