Her eyes gleam with pleasure. "Very good," she says. "You have chosen well, apprentice."
Her praise makes you feel cold, as if your veins were becoming ice. At first it stings, but slowly, you become numb.
"Before we continue, my dear apprentice," she says, "I need something of yours."
"Anything," you reply. The thought of pleasing her brings happiness to your otherwise numb heart.
She cackles gleefully. It is the most beautiful sound in the world.
"Give me your soul."
