Barney Stinson is a character on the CBS television series How I Met Your Mother. Barney is best known for being a vain, shallow, hedonistic womanizer and for creating his own catchphrases. Barney is played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Biography

If you were to ask Barney, he'd probably claim to have been born in Awesomeville, Awesomevania on the fourth of Awesome. Actually, he grew up in the suburbs with his single mother, a chain-smoking party girl and his half brother, James.

Barney's secret origin is that as a young man, he was a product of the 1990's, sporting a ponytail and goatee, wearing Birkenstocks and a hemp sweatshirt and playing an acoustic guitar. He was also shy and sensitive, and a virgin. When young Barney lost the girl of his dreams to a suit wearing Yuppie, he transformed himself into the sharp dressed and slick talking ladies man of today.

He lives in a gigantic bachelor pad apartment in Manhattan and works at a company called UltraCell. While no one knows exactly what it is Barney does, he makes a very large amount of money. Barney's pastimes include hanging out with his friends at MacLaren's Bar, laser tag and picking up women.

Personality

Barney is vain and shallow, and is almost never seen wearing anything but an expensive and finely tailored suit. He insists on the best and newest of everything, particularly in the way of gadgetry (for example, the 200 inch plasma TV in his apartment).

He is obsessed with sex, and views women in two categories: those he would sleep with, and those he wouldn't, a line usually drawn by way of attractiveness and potential for complications.
