Gencap Railrifle

The Gencap Railrifle is one of the more powerful weapons found on reach. This large rifle is 1.2 meters in length, and weighs 14 kg. However, its weight and bulkiness are compensated for by its immense firepower, so the few who can afford one often carry them around at every oppertunity.

The Gencap rifle is a miniaturized version of a railgun. The slug is initially propelled by the fuel inside the bullet, as a normal gun. However, the last 50 cm of the rifle are a series of magnetic accelerator coils, which boost the speed of the bullet to over 120 km/sec. This lends a tremendous amount of energy to the slug, giving it fantastic penetration. However, this is not without cost. The amount of energy required to fire the railgun is enormous. A battery pack is fitted in inside the gun, but it is only good for 2 shots. More commonly, a power cable will be attached to the user's vehicle, letting them drain their transportation's battery instead. In circumstances where a more portable device is needed, there are Carbon 122 generator backpacks that can be worn by a friend, enabling multiple firings. However, the backpack is heavy and bulky, meaning that the person wearing it cannot take other actions, and it only generates enough charge to fire every other round (every 5 seconds).
