Morphology
Thermal gliders are passive, winged creatures that feed off the heat of the desert. An adult glider appears to be little more a thin, diaphanous green disc, with a handful of wispy tails floating behind. The disc is actually an extremely efficient photosynthetic organ, accumulating solar energy to manufacture sugars. The tails undulate softly to keep the glider level. During the day, Gliders rise to altitudes of several kilometers, well above the dangerous hurricane winds and sandstorms. At night, they land and bury themselves under several meters of sand. At this time, they are vulnerable to attack from Chef Spiders and Squibs.
Life Cycle
Thermal gliders are asexual, and reproduce by division in the air. They can only do this on extremely hot days, when they reach extremely high altitude and have tremendous stored energy. The details of the process aren't known, only that one glider goes up, and two smaller gliders come down.
Hazards
Thermal gliders are harmless.
