The yellow mess & riding van was used by the permanent way department whenever they were relaying ballast or working on the track up the line as part of the p-way trains, usually hauled by Perkins. However, it was withdrawn in September 2006, after a derailment at The Green in May and was dismantled and burnt on Ravenglass village bonfire in November. Its headstocks and bogies have been salvaged.
