166 is an open coach that was built in 1966 by Myers and Bowman as a steel-framed prototype open coach, to replace the 1930s and 1950s coaches, made entirely of wood.
It is now rebuilt afer being stripped down to the bare metal in the joinery workshop at Ravenglass. This coach was notable as its left-hand side was not boarded up, and the seats were more like benches than the traditional seats on all other coaches. It is now similar to coaches such as 170.
