PAUP*

From Protists

Mac OS X and OS 9

This Graphic User Interface (GUI) version of PAUP* is easy to use and beginner friendly. Use the QuickStart or Command Reference for the program (available online if you can't find it using Apple+F on the computer).

Intel Mac

Unfortunately, the GUI is not yet available for the Intel Mac version of this program, but to get around it you can follow the directions below after installing the portable version of the program from the installation disc from Sinauer Associates, Inc., Publishers.

Execute File

1. Open Terminal, new shell

2. Drag executable program into new shell

3. Drag nexus (.nxs or .nex) file to be executed into new shell

4. Hit return, then it should run

Edit File

1. Copy nexus (.nxs or .nex) file (just as a safety backup)

2. Rename copy as .txt (instead of .nxs or .nex), say yes to name change

3. Drag and drop onto Text Edit program shortcut on toolbar

4. Edit commands in Text Edit

5. Close .txt file when finished editing

6. Rename .txt back to .nxs or .nex

7. Execute edited file in PAUP*

Note: for correct command line syntax (in Terminal), can type in first couple of letters and then hit the tab button as a shortcut
