An alter ego (from the Latin for "other I") is an identity that one uses in addition to their first identity. They are used for a number of reasons, such as privacy, safety, anonymity, and aesthetic appeal.
Examples
- James Joyce used the alter ego Stephen Daedalus in books like Portrait of the Artist as Young Man and Ulysses'
- Peter Parker's alter ego is Spiderman.
- John Lennon once used the alter ego Winston O'Boogie.
