- Benn's Media Vol.1 United Kingdom - covers national and regional newspapers, consumer, business and professional periodicals, reference publications, Broadcasting, Other media (eg cinema, outdoor, electronic), Media Organisations and Media Services.
- Benn's Media Vol.2 Europe - the guide to European (incl. Eire) newspapers, periodicals, television, radio and cinema.
- BRAD - the monthly guide to advertising media - a classified directory of media in the UK and the Republic of Ireland that carries advertising. Gives details of circulation, readership and audience figures. For reference only, the print version of BRAD is shelved with the journals at Craighouse. The electronic version requires a username and password, available from any campus library.
- Directory of Publishing, UK and the Republic of Ireland Also available on CD-ROM.
- The Media directory - an annual Guardian publication that contains useful material under the following main headings: Press / Broadcasting / Cross Media (eg law, sport, complaints) / Disasters and Emergencies / Work / Pressure and Advice groups. The index is good, but note exclusions listed at the beginning.
- Publishers' Catalogues. Avoid the advertising and use the search box or browse the country links. Useful but not fully comprehensive - several Scottish publishers not listed under the UK link.
- Scottish Books. Home page of the Scottish Publishers Association. Click on `our members' list to view a useful listing of Scottish publishers
- Willings Press Guide Vol.1 The UK Aims to be a comprehensive and accurate guide to the UK Press, both print and broadcast. Good sections on newspapers and periodicals, with a detailed classified index and a ceased titles index. Vols. 2 and 3 cover the rest of the world.
- Writers' and Artists' Yearbook- 'A directory for writers, artists, playrights, writers for film, radio and television, illustrators and photographers' Contains a wealth of information under broad headings such as: Newspapers and magazines, books, television and film, radio, preparing for publication, resources for writers, publishing practice, copyright and libel.

- Newsfilm online - comprising a selection of news stories and programme scripts from the ITN/Reuters archives – some 3,000 hours of footage; c. 60,000 stories.
- Film and Sound Online - a set of ten collections of film and video, providing about 300 hours of material on a wide range of subjects - Audio/Video

- BUBL Journalism - a list of some 30+ vetted sites relating to various aspects of journalism. A concise description is given for each site. The site is not currently being updated, but most links still seem to work.
- WeMedia: how audiences are shaping the future of news and information - a report commissioned by the Media Center of the American Press Institute.
- HERO: Reference and subject resources: Newspapers and Magazines- a listing of mainly specific sites (not other gateways) e.g. news, broadcasting, newspapers.
- Journalism UK - Journalism UK is aimed at print journalists writing for UK magazines or based in the UK, although broadcasters may find the news and other resources useful. Journalism UK is not exhaustive - only links to the most useful and up to date sites are included.
- Trace Online Writing Centre Archive - based at Nottingham Trent University this offers a good range of links to resources on all kinds of writing.
- Newslink - searchable index of titles and links to thousands of newspapers, news services and campus newspapers worldwide, organised by country and by US state.
- BUBL Media Studies - another vetted list of sites relating to media studies, each with a concise description. The site is not currently being updated, but most links still seem to work.
- British media online - a wide ranging listing of online sources including New Scientist and Private Eye as well local and national newspapers.
- Media UK Internet Directory - sections covering Television, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines and Media Jobs. Each contains numerous links
- The Newspaper Society - "the voice of Britain's local media".
- Ofcom - Ofcom is the regulator for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.
- Theory.org - the media theory site - "Social theory for fans of popular culture. Popular culture for fans of social theory....explores the complex connections between media and identities and tries to have a little fun"
