Electronic journals and other databases

  • You may find it easier to get started with the shorter lists in each Subject Focus.

The databases listed fall into a number of categories:

  • services which index a wide range of arts journals
  • services which also contain (or link to) full text of journal articles
  • technical information (British Standards etc.)
  • catalogues of other libraries that you may want to visit
  • images or music
  • internet gateways
  • collections of electronic books

We have database helpsheets available for many of them.

You might also like to try this little interactive gadget - it takes you through some choices of how to search for journal articles, and includes short videos to show you how to search. NUINLink has changed a little since this was created, but not much.

How can I find journal articles on...

Although it says it is about Design, it really applies to any subject.

NUINLink

The quickest way to find out if Napier has an electronic journal is to use the Find e-Journal option in our NUINLink service.

(Don't forget to check also whether we might have it in print format = use NUIN, and limit your search to Format = Journals)

Other options:

NUINLink offers a QuickSearch option to search against a pre-selected set of databases for Creative Industries.

You can use NUINLink as an alternative means of access to all our Creative Industries databases, as well as some selected websites and library catalogues:

  • Access the subject menu directly at NUINLink Find Database - Subject List. Choose Creative Industries from the list on the left, then a subject from the list on the right and click GO.
  • Click on the information buttons to find out more about each one.
