This is a complete list of the databases most likely to be useful for Creative Industries at Napier. Follow the access links through to connect to electronic services. A few services are in print format only.

ABI/INFORM Global

Alternative Press Index (1995-)

  • printed index only, at Craighouse

ANTE - Abstracts in new technologies and engineering

  • all technical subjects - may link to full text via SFX

Art index

  • print version only, Merchiston abstracts section

Architectural publications index - search the index in electronic form as part of the RIBA online catalogue

  • before searching, scroll down to Search Limits and change this from ALL to ARTICLES instead
  • we also have the print version in Merchiston Library, Abstracts Section

Music Index

  • all types of music - print format only, at Craighouse. Napier does not have a current subscription, but we have vols for 1949-1997.

Press (2001-April 2007).

  • a merger of Printing Abstracts ( 1958-2001) and World publishing monitor (1991-2001). Before that, World publishing monitor was known as Electronic publishing abstracts (1983-1990) - print format only, at Craighouse.

RILM (Répertoire international de la littérature musicale)

  • mainly classical music - print format only, at Craighouse. Napier does not have a current subscription, but we have vols.1-29, 1967-1995.

Zetoc

  • all subjects covered - if articles are not available locally, anything you find here can be requested from the British Library via our Document Supply service

Newspaper articles

  • Nexis UK contains the full text of a huge range of international newspapers - but no pictures, sadly.

  • BFI Screenonline - a website devoted to the history of British film and television
  • AHDS Visual Arts: Collections
  • Film and Sound Online - a set of ten collections of film and video, providing about 300 hours of material on a wide range of subjects
  • SCRAN - a resource base of Scottish material culture and human history
  • Films from the Home Front - a collection of unique moving images illustrating what life was like for ordinary people in Britain during the Second World War, as seen through amateur documentaries, newsreels, government films, and home movies.
  • Capital Collections - a choice of images from the collections of Edinburgh City Libraries and Information Services

TV schedules

  • TRILT - Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching - listings for more than 300 TV and radio channels with data from 1995 onwards
