Electronic journals and other databases

Via NUINLink

There are a number of ways to search for journal articles, but the easiest one to start with is probably to use our NUINLink service.

Access it at http://nuinlink.napier.ac.uk.

QuickSearch

Select the Creative Industries Quickset before you start to search.

(You can also try using the General quickset if you want, as this contains a slightly different set of databases).

When you get a list of results and see something interesting, use the SFX link buttons to find out if we have the full text.

Subject search

You can use NUINLink as a means of finding and accessing our best databases for Creative Industries, as well as some selected websites and library catalogues:

Choose Creative Industries from the list on the left, then a subject from the list on the right and click GO.

  • Click on the information buttons to find out more about each one.

Find e-Journal

If you know the name of a journal, the quickest way to find out if Napier has it in electronic format is to use the Find e-Journal option.

(Don't forget to check also whether we might have it in print format = use NUIN, and limit your search to Format = Journals)

Creative Industries Databases List

The databases listed fall into a number of categories:

  • services which index a wide range of arts journals
  • services which also contain (or link to) full text of journal articles
  • technical information (British Standards etc.)
  • catalogues of other libraries that you may want to visit
  • images or music
  • internet gateways
  • collections of electronic books

Explore the Subject Areas from the menu on the left to find shorter, targeted lists.

We have database helpsheets available for many of them.

More information

You might also like to try this little interactive gadget - it takes you through some choices of how to search for journal articles, and includes short videos to show you how to search. NUINLink has changed a little since this was created, but not much.
