Pre-School Institutions
It is not compulsory for students to attend Pre-school institutions, but the government provides funding for such centres. Here, children are taught basic skills such as co-operation, sharing and about friendships. They are also taught the basics of reading and writing.
Foundation Institutions
Foundation Institutions are compulsory for all children. Students who attend start in the 12th year at 6, and gradually work their way up thorugh school, being taught reading and writing, science, maths, history, geography and fegosian. In 7th year, all students take the Foundation Examination, which tests them on verbal reasoning as well as english, maths and sciences.
High Schools
In 6th year, at the age of 12, students start high school. Here, they are taught a much wider range of subjects, including economics, and in 5th year are called upon to choose their education options. While english, maths and the sciences are compulsory, all the other subjects aren't, with students taking an average total of 11 of these courses.
In 3rd year, students are required to all take the Standard Fegosian Education Level (SFEL). After this, they can choose between 3 and 5 subjects to take for their Progessional Fegosian Level (PFL). In 2nd Year, students can leave school for a job or to go onto university if they believe that will help them.
In 1st year, the students take their PFLs, and upon receival of their results can find a job or go to university.
University
In university, three different qualifications can be taken : the Alfegos Foundation Level (AFL), the Alfegos Upper Level (AUL) and the Alfegos Top Level (ATL). These are taken after at least a year of education and study, with possible work experience in the field of the profession they are studying.
Qualifications and Exams
The exams taken can be summarised as follows:
- Foundation Exam - A test for intellegence of the population, and for a summary of the child's knowledge to be taken.
- SFEL - The most basic exam that can be put upon a job application.
- PFL - More accpeted by employers, the most common form of exam used as a minimum job requirement.
- AFL - Similar to a Bachelors.
- AUL - Similar to a Masters
- ATL - Similar to a PhD
Exams are rated on a scale of 1 - 8, with one being worst and 8 being best. An E grade (exceptional) is awarded to top students.
