History
New Zevkhay was originally a fortress set up in 1428 by King Fe'soi I in his expedition to control the south of Alfegos. this fortress is now what is known as the old city.
It stayed at a pretty small size until 1723, when the agricultural and industrial revolution went underway spectacularly. The population grew rapidly on the opposite bank, with the occasional building popping up on the fortress side, until 1901.
From then on, the expansion of industry took off around the fortress, accelerating to the point that by 1931 the population had increased from 19 600 to 206 000, all living in the suburbs around the many glistening towers in the city centre.
During 1952, it was stormed and taken by communist forces, after a 3 month battle to save the headquarters of the democratic governement, where after the war in 1955 the capital was moved to.
It continued growing rapidly until 2001, when controlled migration measures tried to cope with the massive influx of people straining resources, that are now thankfully under control.
Geography
The entire city runs along the river and spreads around the bay of Zevkhay. This area being particularly flat, there are few hills, the only ones being those upon which the ancient settlements were built on, including where the old city is located.
The city consists of a core financial district with large amounts of retailing area. It then spreads out to the suburbs, where the majority of people live in mid-level accomodation.
Cultural District
The cultural district is found near the coast, up to and including a large area of shore, up to the seafront district. It is a large area where many shops, restaurants and theatres can be found, to accomodate for the needs of the city dwellers. This is one of the few places in Alfegos that massive concentrations of foreign shops can be found.
Financial District
The financial district spreads north from the old city, and mostly consists of glass towers spreading out from prosperity avenue, the main route into the government quarter.
Governmental District/Old City
Inside the red walls of the old city can be found the government of Alfegos in all its glory. In the central square where the destroyed keep was is now home to the senate of Alfegos, with the square around filled with the ministries which keep the country running.
The main roads in the old city, Embassy Avenue and Glory Avenue, are consisted mostly of embassies for foreign nations.
The Seafront
The most exclusive part of New Zevkhay to live in, the Seafront extends from 2 miles from the river for a mile along the pristine beaches of the coast. Here can be found the houses and palaces of the president and many other famous Alfegosians, as well as penguins from Pinguinum that prance from the embassy on the seafront onto the beaches filled with many tourists or owned solely by the residents.
