Gupte Gaurav Umesh

"Gai hamaari maata hai! Gaurav usko khaata hai!"

Pillar- A large post, often used as supporting architecture.

Now Gaurav is not a large post (and we can't really confirm whether he has a large post) but if Gaurav Gupte had left lawschool midway then a lot of people and institutions would have collapsed. His friends wouldn't have had someone who they could trust would take them home when they were smashed drunk, his roomates wouldn't have had someone nursing them through bouts of infectious disease (at great risk to his own health I might add), the EMC wouldn't have been able to recieve or register anyone, generations of juniors would have missed out on profound philosophy, Surabhi would have lost a coffee mate and so many of his friends would not have had someone to turn to in their moments of crisis (and there were many of them over five years). But it would unfair to sum up Gaurav from a purely functionalist perspective.

Gaurav spent his first year masquering as Avinash Suresh (or was it the other way around), but soon found several more engaging pastimes. Gaurav is one of the few members of our class who mooted year in and year out. For him was coined the proverb - if at first you dont suceed... for succeed he did and his exploits took him all over the country. Gaurav was also one of the lucky few who could see the lighter side (or the light at the end of the tunnel) of some of the less funny episodes we all go through during our five years. He not only pulled himself through, but also made several (several!) female friends along the way - no doubt with assurances of coffee, conversation and jismani garmee thrown in for good measure. As a founding member of both the seven o'clock dinner club and Room 303, Gupte was always ready for a party. This, despite the fact that his capacity for alcohol (to begin with) was inversely proportional to his matchless wit. Despite all these distractions, Gaurav managed to stay on course and landed a prized job at AMSS Bombay, where he is currently impressing all and sundry with his good humour and unparalleled work ethic.
