Overview

Generating great publicity is essential to running a robust chapter. Traditional media like newspaper publications offer a great medium for chapters to get the word out about Nourish Ventures and Projects to their campuses. The formal process involves writing a press release and submitting it to the newspaper's editor. It's helpful to try to build a list of personal relationships with media contacts. If they consider the story newsworthy, they will publish an article of the event or project in their paper.

Press releases should be written in the third person.

The press release should be submitted at least __ days before the event. The best days to send press releases are Wednesday and Thursday, as they are often the slowest news days.

If a press release announces an event in partnership with another organization, it's best to send an email copy to the organization and make sure they approve of the information.

Often times, when angling for a feature story about a project or an event, it is helpful to call the paper in advance and speak to the editor of the section that will be most interested in your event (example, a University News or Features editor). Make sure the body of your press release answers the question who, what, when and where.

According to James Dillard, Communications Director of Nourish International, “All press releases
should include at least one quote from the
