[edit] Ling's Advice
Mage: INT/WIS/PER should be pretty high (especially INT and WIS) PER is important for spelldamage and the TRACK skill (TRACK also depends on INT) WIL should be ok high too as it helps with spellsave etc.
Cleric: WIS/WIL should be high INT important too. PER is NOT important at all for clerics, if you don't want powertrack (casters usually get high % in track anyway when maxed due to the high INT they usually got). DEX/CON/STR on casters are usually pretty low since you put many of your stat-points on your mentals. But it feels like DEX is more important now when they've changed the new flee, and CON is for HPS.
Thieves: DEX/PER are most important for a thief, they affect sneak, backstab, dodge etc. INT is needed to get ok pick, envenom, search or track. WIL of course, for spellsave... Nowadays backstab doesn't depend on STR anymore, so a bit lower STR and higher CON is good since CON gives move points and hit points. If you prac some warriorskills like endurance too, they work better with a bit higher CON. Warriors:
Two types of warriors, TANK (does massive damage) or DODGER (defensive figheter) DODGER: DEX/PER/STR are the most important. You only need enough STR to wield a slashing weapon. Many defencewarriors are slashers only, but they barely do any damage, they are just good for buffing, not killing. :-) To get concussion+slash so you do some damage too is a good idea... 18 STR is minimum to wield an Ornate Steel-shafted warhammer.
TANK: STR/CON/WIL are important for all warriors, and especially for Smiters/Cleavers and for the ENDURANCE skill that is very important as well. Put some pracs in PER too if you want a ok track, some warriors are hardcorewarriors and don't get track.
[edit] Lahnborg's Advice
When making a caster of any kind always keep your mentals high, wil doesn't always have to be THAT high. And per is enough with 12-14 - this will leave you beeing able to reroll between cleric and mage. That's of course just how I presonally like it.
[edit] Prist's Advice
In my experience when playing casters, PER doesn't mean anything. All my mages got PER 12 or lower and they're doing fine in pk. And for mages your WIS shouldn't be more than 16 and for clerics int no more than 16 either though you should max your primary stat.
If you want a good warrior then play orc with 19+ STR 17 DEX 19+ CON If u stat/prac it correctly you can have a char with 160%ish defence on wimpy and 170%ish ob, 400+ hps and bloody fast track... at least i got that... ohwell... :P
[edit] Vecna's Advice
Higher PER as a mage = more damage and less LOS (loss of sight)
[edit] Fëagil's Advice
Well this is what i would make my orc warrior like: 19, 6, 7, 15, 19, 15, 12, [96] Orc. That's pasted from the statgenerator in the order Str Int Wis Dex Con Wil Per. Those are no-age stats of course.
[edit] Filibert's Advice
Here are a few tips for newbies on what to consider about the stats:
STR: think about what weapon you wanna use on your char find out what str is neede for it and choose str after that. Note all warriors need high str because str is the primary skill to almost all weapons.
INT: as a non caster int is used for track/envenom/cure light/pick. This means raise str 2-3 steps. For a caster Int is primary for mage offensive spells and max mana, Max int on mages. Max or 1-2 from max on clerics.
WIS: as non caster wis gives you better ability to mix herblores, raise 1-3. As caster wis is primary for cleric spells, gives more max mana. For casters see Int but switch Mage/cleric.
DEX: gives you base defence and are primary for thief skills. High dex also gives you higher flee success rate. Non thief should not max dex, but raise it abit. Dex also gives you more moves.
CON: gives you hp/moves. high con gives you high move/hp regen. High con is good on all chars, if you don't have to bob your caster to much you have more mana for offensive spells.
WIL: spell save and mana regen, important for all chars. But some like to put points into other skills and risk getting toasted by a few spells.
PER: track is the key here, if you want track you need per. If you are a newbie or like to play as a hitter in a group per is nothing for you. also per gives you higher chance to succesfully cast a spell on your target instead of missing it. Very importand for thiefs.
[edit] Ytinas' Advice
I keep seeing that dex increases fleechance. But in the posts i have read it is only mentioned that flee decreases the time between flees, and that wil infact is used for the fleeing bit.
