Detect Magic (Su): A profane ooze has a constant detect magic effect in a 120 foot-radius. It immediately begins moving towards any source of magic it detects. The ooze automatically can discern between arcane and divine magic, and will target divine auras over arcane.
Rush (Ex): The normally slow-moving ooze can increase its speed to 60 ft. once every 10 rounds.
Acid Touch (Ex): The profane ooze deals 1d6 points of acid damage to anything that contacts its body.
Corruption Aura (Su): As a standard action a profane ooze can create a corruption aura in a 20-foot radius that lasts for ten rounds. Any divine spells that are cast in the area that fail to overcome the ooze's spell resistance are disrupted and inflict 1d6 points of damage per spell level against the caster. Also any already-existing divine spell effects must roll to overcome the ooze's SR or they are dispelled.
Magic Adaptation (Su): The profane ooze becomes immune to any spell that manages to overcome its spell resistance. It essentially gains unbeatable SR against that spell for the next hour.
The profane ooze is named for its ability to corrupt divine spells. It is not very large or strong, but is difficult to damage. It is immune to all cold, fire, and weapon damage, as well as resistant to electricity and magic. Any sonic attacks that manage to overcome its spell resistance inflict +50% damage, but then it will immediately adapt to that spell. Even thought its touch is acidic, other forms of acid still harm it.
Strategies and Tactics
The profane ooze is mindless. If it detects magic it goes towards it. If it detects divine magic, it uses its corruption aura and goes towards it. If it senses something touching the ground within range of its tremorsense, it rushes 60-ft towards it and attacks. On a successful melee attack it can initiate a grapple as a free action and will continue grappling while its acid touch slowly kills its target.
Adventure Hooks
A sorcerer has been gradually luring a profane ooze closer to a nearby temple. It is nesting nearby the day before a clerical ceremony is scheduled to take place.
Several profane oozes live around a black and green dragon lair. They are attracted to the dragons as magical beings, but they cannot hurt them since they are immune to acid.
Ecology and Society
The profane ooze feeds on living creatures, but is especially fond of consuming beings with spell-casting abilities. A profane ooze can be a threat to underground gnome and drow civilizations, since their entire race has spell-like abilities. Large oozes sometimes split off a smaller offspring that must then take off on its own in search of magic (profane oozes touching each other inflict their acid damage upon each other).
A profane ooze is normally a 5-foot diameter puddle that can squeeze through openings only 2 inches wide. Average ooze weighs 200 pounds.
