HCSA pledges further support for trainees
At its meeting on Friday March 23rd the HCSA governing Council considered the plight of trainees undergoing selection for speciality training through the Medical Training Application Service (MTAS). Council is appalled that MTAS had failed trainees through an application system that is fundamentally flawed. Council resolved:
- That the Chairman of the HCSA Executive Committee and the HCSA Chief Executive should offer talks with Remedy and other appropriate organisations to identify how HCSA further support might best be provided
- To support any consultant who may wish to decline an invitation to attend an interview selection panel
- That the current MTAS review must ensure that any revised selection process should be implemented on a phased and validated basis.
- To demand Government tell the Country how many trainees will not secure employment and why this medical expertise is to be lost.
- To demand that Government consults and engages the profession more widely than has been the case. #To note with concern that these issues of today will create lasting and significant damage to the well-being of tomorrow’s patients
- To make a financial contribution towards the Remedy legal challenge fund.
