Folksonomy

This is a portmanteau of the words folks + taxonomy and is to be seen in Flickr[1]which is user tagging of photos or del.icio.us[2] which allows the user tagging of literally anything generated from bookmarks.It is in effect a user driven taxonomy. As such, how should this be accomodated in standardisation towards a common taxonomy ? Maybe marketing associations can oversee the tagging weeding out the noise that can occur with a lack of overall control.
