This question has been debated heavilly due to the Super Mario Brothers live action movie. Was Mario born in the Mushroom Kingdom or in New York?

Yoshi's Island shows the Mario brothers being delivered in the mushroom kingdom and in Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, there is no mention of new york in the childhood of Mario and Luigi.

Thus we can conclude that he was born in the mushroom kingdom. However, taking into account the events of earlier games like Donkey Kong, and Mario Bros., unless these where simply retcooned, would say that the Mario Bros. had to have been born in New York, or they where somehow sent to New York after being born in the Mushroom Kingdom. This could very well be possible, since Mario and Luigi's parents could have sent the two through some kind of warp(a sort of Magic Warp Pipe) that took them to another world, where they would be safe from Bowser and Kamek trying to capture them again. However, with the number of things that happened while Mario and Luigi where babies(Several Yoshi's Island games, Mario & Luigi Partners in Time), this idea is not very commonly accepted.
