ARM Day

From Kronthor Wiki

ARM Day (commonly Arch Red Mage Day or Red Mage Day) is the time that Akakios Channing took Orion Gleeron from the Kliceet Market to his tower. On this day, Orion began his apprenticeship. ARM Day is often used as a standard way of measuring time with Arch Red Mages. For example, The Establishment happened 75 years before ARM Day. It is celebrated in most magical circles, and is regarded as a very important historical date. In common and mundane society, ARM Day is an excuse to have a holiday. It is celebrated differently all around the Core Galaxies. Nowadays it has changed from its original purpose of honoring Orion to honoring Red Mages in general.

The Wild Lands

ARM Day is celebrated in the smaller settlements of the Wild Lands with a ritual known as "Candy for Orion". Children spend many nights laboring over hand-made dolls. On ARM Day the kids take their dolls, made in Orion's likeness, around town. It is not required to give anything, but most adults do anyway. They pass out some sweeties, a few gold pieces, or maybe an ear of corn. At midnight, the dolls are taken to the center of town to be burned in a big bonfire.

For those close enough to the Hermit of Greenwoad, they can sit and watch as he does a wonderful display. It differs from year to year, but they always include his skeletons and zombies. Regular watchers can tell the difference between each individual undead, and notice when there is a new "acquisition". The hermit often has his undead do unbelievable displays of dexterity and strength, all the while crying out blessings mixed in with his constant mad ravings. At precisely 6:30 PM, he gets out a card table and a board game. The board game isn't always the same, but he seems to favor Scrabble and Chalice of Death. The hermit sets it up for two players and begins to play, acting as two different people. It is common belief that he thinks he's playing with Orion himself. People who watch him year after year claim that, every once and a while, a huge Goatman with a great big double-sided axe materializes to play.

The business town of Nayr celebrates with a small congregation of Orion's followers at the chapel, where they sit and pray. Most citizens could care less, and some even whisper curses to Orion on this day. In Nayr, the season around ARM Day is regarded as a good time for vacations.

Battlegrounds

ARM Day is one of the busiest days of the year for the Battleground business officials. Spellcasters come from hundreds of miles around to fight. Thousands of spells are fired off, and great fights between mages ring out through the night.

Legolands

In the Legolands ARM Day is a private affair. Cults will have secret ceremonies, renegade wizards will partake in dangerous missions in Orion's name, and battle-hardened mercenaries ask for blessings. If anyone can get their hands on explosives, they set them off.

Among the few Lego elite, ARM Day is hardly even noticed. If they care at all, it's because of politics and their wish to be King.

Watermoon

Watermoon sets off firecrackers on ARM Day. Firecrackers, firecrackers, firecrackers. Big displays, little displays, whatever they can get. King Watermoon himself goes to the Royal Ceremony. It's held in the courtyard of St. Roger's Fort, and has a thousand gold pieces entrance fee. Artisans create fine fireworks to form the shapes of dragons or fairies. Lower class citizens can care less about getting those pieces of "artwork". All they want is a big boom. Bottle rockets, Greckle Candles, and major explosives are what they're looking for.

Camelot

In Castle Camelot, King Arthur holds a great feast in honor of Merlin on ARM Day, whom he believes was the first Arch Red Mage. He invites people from all over the kingdom to enjoy the marvelous food and entertainment. At the end of the day (for the celebration lasts all day), King Arthur and any knights present are expected to give a speech commemorating the great mage. Sir Gilead is famously remembered for his speech on the embodiment of souls.
