"Gamu" redirects here; this is the Kokoro version of the character. Other versions are listed and linked on the page.

Kiki Reikaira (黄木れいかいら), better known as Kiki Gamu, was introduced to the Kokoro game in the summer of 2004 to replace an absent Bubblegum Redtree temporarily. She later became the klutzy Mew's full replacement as her authoress Sana Jisushi's main character. Introduced around the same time that the game had adopted the Saica Mage System and was gaining many future children, she is noted for being the first time traveler that was not a Shirogane child, although her original story did revolve around their existence. She is a temporal accident, though to her knowledge, only her former employers, Ryou, Liz and perhaps Tsubasa know; therefore, she technically has no dimension. Later, and without her knowledge or consent, Ryou told Takaishi Sora; even later, she gave all her personal information to Shirogane Shuugo as (possibly suicidal) reparation for an argument.

History

Before Kokoro

Gamu was born in 2004, maybe. She has been retconned to have come from Osaka. In the Kokoro Draft world (then just the future of Kokoro), magic was outed to the people despite the objections of the magical world and its bureaucracy. Little Reikaira was bullied by a group of magical children who had grown up believing the subtext behind the rules of the magical world, that humans were helpless and fragile. She quickly learned to fight back, keeping it a secret from her parents, who were too busy working to care anyway. Around this time, she also developed a paralyzing fear of domestic cats.

At age eight, having moved to Tokyo and still not very well-liked, she was running from the other children when she spotted a lavish Western-style wedding. She snuck into the ceremony to watch. The bride was a famous diplomat, and by sheer coincidence and a well-placed heavy vase, Reikaira managed to save her from an assassin. A mortified guard for AIDES (multiple acronyms have been made for it, none of them sticking too long) snapped the girl up as a "child prodigy" to avoid further humiliation. Reikaira herself didn't care all too much. It looked exciting, and what else was she going to do? Besides, it could help her become stronger, and no one would ever hurt her again.

Come the year 2016 (hence her LJ username, gamy_2016), five-year-old twin catgirls Shirogane Masume and Kisa illegally used time travel technology to try to take over the world in 2004. Masume was insane, Kisa just plain self-centered; it looked like a simple job to drag them back. Reikaira, given a simple codename "Gamu" to fit in with the food-named crowd, was given the job and a utility belt full of such useful things as a minicomputer, freeze spray, sleep needles and a handheld knife. She used a simple time-travel program that could only follow someone else's time-travel trail from at least 24 hours before, and stepped into Kokoro...

Kokoro Days

Accepted within the community, she kept her distance until she discerned the twins' identity, outed them to the cafe and shipped them back home. Of course, they didn't stay gone for long. They kept coming back, Masume because Happy Acres was boring (and apparently easily escapable), Kisa to borrow credit cards. Gamu stayed to ship them back every time, but she soon grew accustomed to cooking tofu for the masses, vetoing Plum's crazy plans and playing vicious pranks on Ryou for having created the Mew Project and outing magic to the world. Soon enough, she fell in love with the place, dumped her job and broke countless time travel rules to stay there. Apparently, someone in management sympathized enough with her to let it happen.

Gamu moved into the cafe, and the prank wars and tofu boycotts began. However, she found that she really enjoyed being around people that cared whether she existed. She and Ryou had once come to a draw and given up pranking each other, but Ryou went back on the terms and analyzed her DNA compatibility with various animals, playing on her greatest fears of losing herself. In a fit of anger, she dropped the truce. She's also discovered a portal to the Nexus of all worlds in the dryer, and was given the small dragon creature Forte in an egg by what appeared to be his mother. She's not entirely sure why, but suspects that it's because "I dunno, didn't wanna be alone."

During the split that caused Kokoro Draft to exist, Gamu, being a resident of a time she did not "belong" in, was duplicated, and this version of her became a temporal accident. She was hunted down by her previous organization, who intended to kill her like others that had suffered this fate. She kept this a secret from everyone; only Liz realized that there was something wrong with her until she came home late one night, beaten, bruised and poisoned, with a limp arm that has never quite healed. It was never revealed why she survived and didn't suffer more damage; perhaps it will at a later date. Ironically, having brought the blue truth cookies, broken up with her boyfriend and fallen in love with Ryou, Gamu is the one person, more so than Shirogane Jishou, who can be blamed for the split in the first place.

At present, she lives in Cafe Mew Mew. Previously, she had had a room with an extra mattress where Kuroneko Satou slept before moving in with Hoshizen Daisuke. However, since the main characters moved out, Gamu has stolen their bedroom and given her old one to Maron. Do not look in her closet, there is doujinshi in there, most of it perverted and relating to the characters of the game. She also has various hidden compartments where she keeps blackmail and personal items, as well as a complete collection of Ichigo plushies and a few scattered ones that she brought in herself.

She has been allowed to continue to exist in a conspiratorial attempt to tear the fabric of the Kokoro world apart, as it was created in an accident. However, the dimension hasn't been torn apart; no one knows why.

Kokoro Draft Future

This version of Gamu, rather than exhausted and angered with Tenshi Kuro, is very worried about his Angelic Energy Disorder. Of course, here he has a stronger personality, an appreciation of her distinct personality and a closer relationship with the cafe-dwellers, and she's more mature. Kitenshi Kocha is her future child here. She actually got married before the others, a fact that Plum refuses to acknowledge.

Otherworldly Counterparts

Gamu exists in quite a few dimentions, but only a few are especially notable. In most of them, because Masume never existed, she never went to the past, grew up continuing to hate mages and magic, and became evil.

  • Mirror Mew Mew: A regular evil Gamu that lost a fight to that world's Ryou and was kept a "prisoner" in the cafe. She slowly turned good, and finally left to find her own home. The cafe had "too many sparkles" for her.

Personality

Gamu's a textbook tsundere, a tough girl with a well-hidden heart that's easily breakable when you get to it but strong enough to get back up with the help of the others. She tries to be kind, but firm; everyone else, used to soft pushovers, calls her a meanie. She also loves tofu, hates cats (and fears them. Greatly. If she sees one she will scream and run away.) and is a bit of a closet pervert. Gamu also views modern-day computers like we would our old school computers from kindergarten that ran on MS-DOS, which caused her to be kidnapped along with Daisuke during Memory Brandon's Chrono crossover plot, but she still can't figure out Ryou's supercomputer. For all her advanced technology, though, it's actually quite outdated in the year in which she would now be living.

If she is mad at you, prepare for Super Super Glue in your shampoo. Or, if she honestly hates you, she'll probably shoot you. Don't worry, she never got a lethal weapons permit. She just wants to ship you far, far away, forever. However, she now believes that killing Tsubasa's Brother is the only way to get rid of him.

Gamu secretly has a very soft and emotional side, and tries to hide her worries with irritated anger. This side has been making itself known more often, with the general effect of brainbreaking Ryou. She also has a soft spot for young children, unless they're troublemakers, in which case she is only reminded of Masume and Kisa back when they were trying to take over the world. Mochi Maron has adopted her as her "mama".

In order to protect herself, she has recently taken on a new identity. "Zero" abandons many of her idiosyncrasies (such as using "ore" and eating mainly tofu) to appear as a normal girl. Gamu has rarely used this disguise in the main story.

Lovelife

  • Gamu returned the advances of rescued monster victim Tenshi Kuro, simply because she didn't think anyone else would take her, but grew more and more irritated with the fact that his illness compelled him to think that everything was futile, he never wanted to make friends, and he didn't understand her at all. Finally realizing that outward progression of a relationship wasn't what made a person better, she eventually gave up.
  • Against every bit of logic she could think of, Gamu began to feel something for Shirogane Ryou, which was first uncovered in late 2006. She had never to anyone admitted straightforwardly that she loves him until an argument with Ichigo drove her over the edge in April of the next year, but all involved knew it for a very long time. She adores him with all her heart and swore to protect him, but disagreements with Ichi have come to a head, stating a message that she can't ignore: There's no place for you here.
  • Various characters have professed crushes on her, despite her terrible self-esteem. One of these is Takaishi Sora, although at the time, he had a girlfriend. Gamu picked up on his feelings, but chose to ignore them, not wanting to ruin anyone else's life; she actually gets along with him quite well, but still refuses to give up her affections for Ryou.
  • Cannoli is another, although his flirting usually ends up with her throwing him into the wall. She calls him "stalker boy" and refuses to speak with him or allow him to touch her. He may have gone through what she has, and he occasionally garners sympathy and has a bit of good sense -- but she refuses to see the situation as anything but black and white.

She also owns a more "traditional" black leather outfit and long black wig, which she rarely uses unless going to kidnap someone that left.

As "Zero", she wears a short, messy, poofy black wig inspired by the original kidnap disguise seen above, revealing slightly more skin and covering her scars with makeup rather than clothing. She stays far away from bright colours and adopts a much more feminine speech pattern, abandoning her thick Kansai-ben.

As Mew Gamu, she could have had a dark red outfit, but she never transformed. She was also a white cat.

Battle info

Gamu is what the mages would call a normal. Therefore, rather than a list of powers (or, as she says, "sparkles"-- an overarching insult for both the people and the abilities), she fights with an arsenal of martial arts and random objects. The staples of her weapons belt are:

  • Needle gun: shoots sleep needles, which are upgraded to poison in her older, more nefarious counterparts.
  • Handheld knife
  • Bracelet that shoots a grappling hook
  • Instant freeze spray
  • Minicomputer
  • A few medical items

She is also known to implement her surroundings; the best example of this is the constantly thrown salt and pepper shakers in the cafe.

At one point, she had become a Mew due to an experimental drug, which traumatized her. She never used this form, so any powers would not have been displayed. She did transform into a cat or catgirl; her trigger emotion was the feeling of being cared for.

Trivia

  • Gamu's authoress was convinced to keep her when K-chan needed the sensible, disciplinary time traveler to contrast with Kisa.
  • Her character design came from Jisu needing to use up her neon pencil crayon set.
