Doubt

I'm beginning to wonder if talking to one's horse is where our alleged curse of madness starts. I certainly seem to be doing a lot of it lately. I am starting to realize a certain paradox in my ambitions, in what I want my legacy to Creation to be. The thing is this - those of my caste are good at manipulating people. We are diplomats, mediators, and (if Immaculate Philosophy teachings are anything to go by) deceivers. I want to end slavery throughout Creation. I have been told that this is an impossible ideal, partly because there are gods whose power depends on the existence of slavery, and partly (if Avenger's Eye's opinions are anything to go by) because some people are perfectly contented to have someone else controlling their lives if it means they will be protected and fed. I believe that most people, if their basic needs for food and shelter and security are met, would prefer to control their own destinies. But what if I'm wrong? Do I have the right to make people believe that they want to be free, and if I'm manipulating or outright coercing them to do so, even if it's for their own good... will they really be free?

Vashtari pinches the bridge of her nose.

You're lucky you're just a horse.
