"Up All Night" is the 11th episode of the first season for the ABC series Modern Family. It premiered on ABC in the United States on January 6, 2010. The episode was written by co-creator Christopher Lloyd and directed by Michael Spiller. In the episode, Gloria is less than pleased with Jay's reaction to the arrival of Javier, Manny's infamously unreliable dad. Meanwhile, Phil is suffering from kidney stones and his dramatics leave Claire no choice but to call for the hot firemen to rush him to the hospital, and Mitchell and Cameron have a harder time than Lily as they attempt to sleep train her.
The episode was written by co-creator Christopher Lloyd becoming the third episode he had written and the first directed by Michael Spiller. The episode features the first appearance of Javier, Manny's original dad and Gloria's original husband who is played by Benjamin Bratt. The episode got a rating of 4.1/11 the biggest rating since the first episode and got positive reviews.
