Soul Survivor WarGames is the 23rd annual Soul Survivor professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by WIW. It will be held for wrestlers from the promotion's Rage and SmackDown brand divisions. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the VL Garden in Belgrade, Montana. It will be the first Soul Survivor to take place on a Saturday, and not to take place on a Sunday. Unlike previous Survivor Series events, the 2022 event will be themed around the WarGames match, a gimmick match first used in Scott Hunter Promotions, then later Velocity Championship Wrestling, and most recently with WIW's developmental brand, NGW. The event was in turn branded as Survivor Series WarGames, marking WIW's first main roster event to feature the match.

Production

Background

Soul Survivor is an annual gimmick event, produced every November by WIW since 1999. The second longest running pay-per-view (PPV) event in history (behind WIW's SuperBrawl), it is one of the promotion's five biggest events of the year, along with SuperBrawl, SummerBash, World War, and Money in the Bank, referred to as the "Big Five". The event is traditionally characterized by having Survivor Series matches, which are tag team elimination matches that typically features teams of four or five wrestlers against each other. Announced on October 25, 2021, the 2022 event will be the 36th event under the Survivor Series chronology and is scheduled to occur on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the VL Garden in Belgrade, Montana, marking the first Soul Survivor to be held on a Saturday.

Since WIW reintroduced the brand split in July 2016, Survivor Series has centered around competition between wrestlers from Rage and ShowDown for brand supremacy (NGW was also involved in 2019 but removed in 2020). In addition to traditional Survivor Series matches between the brands, the champions of each brand have faced off in non-title matches, which began at the 2017 event.

On September 19, 2022, WIW executive's Glennda McAlmond, Dixie Finnegan, and Rex Martin announced that the 2022 event would feature four WarGames (from Hell) matches, two each for the men and women, one of each being a triple threat variation that would not be based on the “Brand versus Brand” concept. This marks the first time for a main roster WIW event to feature the WarGames match. The 2022 event was in turn renamed as Soul Survivor WarGames. In an interview with Wrestle Talk Ringer, Martin stated:

The tradition of the Soul Survivor has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that. This will not be Rage versus ShowDown. It will be much more story-line driven. I still look at it as a traditional component to Soul Survivor in there because it's large teams of people competing. We just upped the ante a little bit with WarGames and made it evolve. Soul Survivor has been an amazing event for 36 years. And it needs to evolve a little bit and this year seemed like the right time to do it.

Storylines

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Saturday Night ShowDown (however when WIW runs there pay-per-views on Saturday's instead of Sunday's, they shift ShowDown to Friday).
