Broken Bodies will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on WIW's primary television programs, Rage and ShowDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
On June 5, it was announced that Martin McAlmond would be returning to the company at SummberBash. On the July 9 episode of ShowDown, McAlmond's opponent was announced to be his brother-in-law Chris LaGreca.
At Justice for Brawl, Kevin McAlmond defeated Matt Borske and Chris LaGreca in a Triple threat match to retain the WIW World Championship. The following Wednesday on Rage, Mikhail Schmalzried defeated Craig Sandvig, Daniel Block and Mike Bartlett in a fatal four way elimination match to earn a match against McAlmond at SummerBash.
After Justice for Brawl, Kevin McAlmond retained the WIW World Championship keeping the championship exclusively to the Rage brand. On the July 29 episode of ShowDown, commissioner Dixie Finnegan and general manager Turf Finnegan created a new championship, the WIW Heavyweight Championship, announcing a tournament taking place starting that night on ShowDown with the finals of the match being contested to crown the inaugural WIW Heavyweight Champion at the SummerBash event.
