Debut (2012-present)

On July 23rd 2012, Paul Heyman appeared on Concussion and boasted of a new signing that would change Attitude Era Wrestling as we all knew it. It was first unknown who Heyman spoke of, claiming his client would bring pain and destruction like the company has never seen before.

Tyler Reks debuted beside Heyman at AEW Redemption the following Sunday in The Staples Center where Heyman once again warned of the reign of terror that was imminent in the company, it was the following night, July 30th 2012 on Concussion, that Tyler Reks would make his in-ring debut. An impressive Reks tore through Scott Hall where he finished Da Bad Guy with his devastating Fall From Grace finisher, the performance saw Reks voted as Superstar of The Week.

Summer of Destiny Tournament

The impressive showing by Reks saw him booked as part of The Summer of Destiny Tournament along with Dean Ambrose, Jack Swagger, AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Sean O'Haire, Stevie Richards and Eric Young. On the August 6, 2012 episode of Concussion Tyler Reks defeated Jack Swagger with his Fall From Grace finisher in his Quarter Final match. Drew McIntyre replaced AJ Styles in the tournament due to an attack on Jack Swagger prior to the match getting underway.

Tyler Reks would go on to lose his Semi-Final match to the eventual winner of the tournament, Eric Young. It was a highly competitive match that saw a number of near-falls but despite over powering his Canadian opponent, Young would use his Youngblood Neckbreaker to hand Reks his first defeat since signing with the company. Tyler Reks was left off the Summer of Destiny card and has said he watched on from a hotel room as Eric Young defeated Daniel Bryan in the finals. The following night on Concussion during Young's victory ceremony, Reks attacked the man who defeated him two weeks prior, setting up a match on the September 3rd edition of Concussion. The match would end in a double count-out after a brawl on the outside; the match was the first Eric Young had failed to win in AEW since resigning with the company and was voted Match Of The Week.

Quest For Respect

The next week on Concussion during a special announcement made by Taz concerning the AEW Television Championship, Paul Heyman and Reks made their way down to the ring intrupting the Co-Owner and AEW Television Championship, Austin Aries. Heyman decided to get slightly personal with Taz, reminding him of the history between the pair and that Taz should recognise the talent of Reks, like Heyman did for him. Heyman claimed that his client is showed constant disrespect by The AEW Universe but more importantly, Taz himself. After announcing the Television Championship would be defended every week Aries took offense to Heyman and Reks interupting his television time and challenged Reks to a match at Rapture
