Background

Wrestle War will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on AEW's television programs, Concussion. Wrestlers will portray heroes (faces) or villains (heels) as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

At The Last Stand, Brock Lesnar defeated Kevin Owens, however after the match Paul Heyman turned on Lesnar and sided with Owens. At Mayhem, Kevin Owens defeated Brock Lesnar in a Stretcher match. On the August 3 episode of Concussion, Brock Lesnar defeated Kevin Owens by forfeit in a Steel Cage match, after the match Paul Heyman would announced that Lesnar would face his new client, not announcing who the new client is yet.
