Background
SummerSlam will feature professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing feuds, plots, and storylines that will be played out on IWE's primary television programs. Wrestlers will portray villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
When Triple K returned on the April 30, 2012 episode of Raw, he told Rob Lesnar that he will only accept the original contract agreed upon, before having his arm broken by Lesnar. It was later announced on IWE.com that, in addition to a broken arm, Triple K had suffered severe ligament and tendon damage around the elbow and that it would require surgery. Triple K later appeared at No Way Out, not only addressing Rob Lesnar and the lawsuits brought against IWE, but also challenging him at SummerSlam, in exchange for his dropping the lawsuits that his legal representative, Paul Heyman, made against IWE and Triple K. On the June 18 episode of Raw, Heyman made an appearance, rejecting Triple K's challenge on behalf of Lesnar. After further goading from Heyman, Triple K attacked him. Meanwhile, it was announced that Rob Lesnar said that he will respond to Triple K's challenge on July 2nd edition of Raw, but at the event it was announced that he will instead return at the 1000th episode of Raw. On the 1000th episode of Raw, Heyman again declined the challenge and after Ashley Glover attacked him, Heyman accepted Triple K's request.
