- Nancy Bus at the home health care service with which we're partnered (VNS).
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Supervision, education, intervention.
- Who pays:
- Medicare, mostly
- Medicaid, 50% lost
- Charity care: dollars from their organization
- Among hhc services 25-50% of patients
- They try to work around the patient's schedule as opposed the nursing home model in which the schedule is set for the patient.
- They teach the patient a lot:
- Helps the patient monitor themselves
- Helps the home health care monitor remotely
- Goal:
- Be independent as possible
- Get one-on-one education
- Expense:
- $150 / visit
- Much cheaper than the hospital
- Main interaction of hhc worker with physicians is with the specialist who is directing care.
- Tech:
- Get vitals and such through tele- or gps-enabled units
- About $3000
- Medicare:
- Requires homebound status
- If it stabilizes then they get the boot after 3 weeks
- HERG scores:
- Homecare's DRG
- DRG: the code that tells medicare or medicaid how much to pay.
- Housecalls:
- Wishard program
- Provides home visits of physicians and nurses and the hhc service
- Eligibility:
- Most everyone is eligible.
- VNS:
- This group originated as Public Health Service of Indianapolis.
- Many patients.
- Capital drive to build a housing unit.
- Have an immunization program, includes international vax.
- Spread over many central Indiana counties.
