History
Nemonos City was founded in 1960 as a utopian escape from the sprawling cities elsewhere in the US. This did not last long as market forces soon resulted in Nemonos moving to a more traditional style of urban development. The creation of the Nemonos Regional Transportation Authority in the early 1960s resulted in an extensive expressway network that further propelled development outwards.
In 2007, the City of Nemonos changed its name to Nemonos City to avoid conflict with the State of Nemonos. Also in 2007, Nemonos City merged with the adjacent city of Maple Heights to form a larger more efficient municipal organization.
Metropolitan Area
The Nemonos Metropolitan Area is large sprawling urban agglomeration that surrounds Nemonos City. Covering 3 counties the metropolitan area is composed of 24 individual municipalities. The total population of the area is 826,096. The average population density across the metro area is 6,884/ sq km. This contrasts sharply with the density of Nemonos City proper and reflects the low density sprawl nature of the region.
Economy
Nemonos City's economy is primarily service based. Downtown Nemonos City is home to numerous large financial companies. South Nemonos has a significant industrial sector, but this has been shrinking as industry moves out of the central core to the suburbs.
Airport
Nemonos City is served by 2 airports. Nemonos-Headwaters International Airport is the main airport and handles the vast majority of all air travel into and out of the region. The smaller, and older, Douglas MacDonald Airport in Cairn is smaller and is primarily used by the US Air Force.
Education
Nemonos City has a highly regarded public school system. It is one of the best funded and highest ranked school systems in an inner city in the US. The area is also served by several campuses of the University of Nemonos. Downtown Nemonos City is also home to the largest library in the State, the Nemonos Metropolitan Library.
Culture
Nemonos City is the center of culture in the Nemonos Metro Area. There are several theaters and concert halls located in the downtown core. Downtown Nemonos City is also home to the Nemonos Botanical Gardens which are a major tourist draw. In addition t
