I just had a friend in town from Boston. He is religiously and endearingly devoted to sneakers. He told me about this store called Bodega off Mass Ave. The main retail space is disguised by a grungy convenience store entrance and can only be reached through a sliding Snapple machine guarded by henchmen. Seriously. The heart of Bodega is actually beautifully appointed and offers everything from limited edition Nike's to imported spray paint and art work. The store and its founders are thriving both credentially and financially. I thought the whole Bodega concept was really innovative and it seems that by taking a drug dealing approach to retail you can build similar love and loyalty.
