The Death Eaters are a wizarding terrorist organization started by the Dark Lord, Voldemort. This is a description of the Death Eaters as they pertain to Incantatem, and not the original Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling.

Death Eaters

Voldemort started The Death Eaters after gaining supporters in his cause. Death Eaters are usually pureblooded wizards, although sometimes they can be half-bloods who support the cause as well as Dark Creatures. Most participants are of old wizarding families who would like more respect in the community.

The Cause/Mission

The cause of the Death Eaters is to have a world in which pureblooded wizards recieve superior treatment and/or muggles or those with muggle blood are eradicated entirely. There are varying degrees of belief in this cause. Some only believe that pureblooded wizards are more proficient in magic and should be respected, while others are more concerned with family lines and "watering down magical ability."

A lot are also concerned with how the Ministry of Magic and other magical governments are treating muggles. Many believe that muggles are inferior beings, like animals, and are simply there for a wizard's amusement, or should serve wizards in some way.

None who join are very concerned with the care of muggles or those born of them, as these groups of people are often targeted by Death Eaters for attacks. Death Eaters take pleasure in making "examples" out of muggles, to warn the opposition of what it can expect.

The Dark Mark

The Dark Mark is used in various ways in the Death Eater Society. It looks like a skull with two serpents consuming the others' tail circling in and out of the skull's eyes. It is used first as a tattoo to mark members as Death Eaters. It is a magical tattoo however, that uses powerful Dark Magic to keep it etched into the skin. The Dark Mark will feel like it is burning when Voldemort wishes to summon the other Death Eaters or when Voldemort is in great need of support. The tattoo is said to be unremovable, but Cillian Rodrigo found a spell to remove his.

The other use of the Dark Mark is to mark incidents as having been Death Eater related. For instance, when the Death Eaters murder some one or cause some sort of devestation, they cast an iredescent green Dark Mark into the sky. It does not disappear and must be removed by another wizard in order for it to go away. It can be called upon by the incantation Morsmorde.

Dedication/Traitors

Death Eaters recieve the Dark Mark as a sign of eternal dedication to The Death Eaters, the cause, and most importantly - Voldemort himself. If you betray this dedication, it is duty of the other Death Eaters to punish you as a traitor, and give you a blacklist. Those on a blacklist expect to be used to their fullest extent and then disposed of in a horribly painful manner.

Hierarchy

There are different levels of power in the Death Eater Organization.

Lord Voldemort

The founder and head of the Death Eaters. Lord Voldemort is the highest ranking person in the Death Eater Organization and has the ultimate authority.

Death Eater Leader

The Death Eater Leader is the highest ranking follower of Voldemort and only answers to him. He or she conveys Voldemort's wishes to the rest of the Death Eaters and helps to execute any major plans.

Respected Death Eaters

This is more of a social group and are not directly recognized as a separate group by the Death Eaters themselves, but they are respected more than the average Death Eater. These Death Eaters either come from an old wizarding line, are very powerful, or are just so disturbing and scary that they demand respect. They aren't given any special treatment from Voldemort, but other Death Eaters treat them as superiors.

Normal Members

The bulk group of Death Eaters.

Disrespected Members

These members are often used to do menial tasks and sometimes rather dangerous things. They are viewed as expendable and unimportant by both the rest of the Death Eaters and Voldemort himself. The lifetime of a disrespected member depends heavily on the success of their missions and pure luck.

In Regards to Other Organizations

The Death Eaters have different attitudes towards other organizations. Their general attitude towards the Ministry is negative.

The Ministry of Magic (Britain)

The Death Eaters see the Ministry Of Magic as an obstacle and the main source of their enemies. Ultimately, they would like reform the Ministry and control it so that it supports its values. Those who work for the Ministry can sometimes be used, and some Death Eaters also work for the Ministry. Death Eaters who work for the Ministry usually serve as informants to Voldemort, but can also make significant and important contributions to the Ministry simultaneously.

The Auror Department

The Auror Department is the main source of trouble for Death Eaters, currently. Most of their enemies are aurors serving the Wizarding Community. They're also the second-largest group of people that the Death Eaters kill, second only to muggles.

The HUSH

The Death Eaters are currently unaware of The HUSH's existence, but they have already run into them and are losing a few members to them.
