History

Fairly recently, the Kiravian Empire laid claim to the African nation-states of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique. The first settlement was built at the Cape of Good Hope and named Saar-Austroafrica. Under the direction of Governor Ian D. Tealford, the colony gained administration over all of the lcaimed areas but Mozambique, and acheived a population of two million colonists.

Economy

Austro-Africa's economy is dependant upon its vast rescources and trade.

Resources

South Africa's mountain ranges and alluvial sediments hold deposits of gold, chromium, antimony, coal, iron ore, manganese, nickel, phosphates, tin, uranium, gem diamonds, platinum, copper, vanadium, salt, natural gas. Zambia's Copperbelt has deposits of copper, emeralds, silver, and cobalt, and Zimbabwe has light reserves of lithium and platinum-group metals.

In addition to these copious amounts of valuable minerals, the many rivers (Orange, Limpopo, Zambeize, etc.) that cross the colony have great hydropower potential.

Southern Rhodesia, with its fertile soils under competent management, has once again become the breadbasket of Africa.

Trade and Industry

With such valuable commodoties to offer, and many ports along the coast and navigable rivers, Austro-Africa has become the continent's largest trading power. Trade relations have been established with Latislavic Africa, Uir Afrik, Vantanian Congo, and most of the other colonies on the continent. Port Elizabeth was sold as a trading post to Vantanas, but with free use by Kiravian ships.

Most of the coastal cities, and some settlements in Rhodesia, have developed industry. Powered by domestic natural gas and hydropower, factories in Austro-Africa process crops and minerals, and produce metal products, heavy machinery, fertilizers, soft drink concentrate, chemicals, building materials, and ships. A facility for production of naval materiél is set to open in two years, and commercial ship repair is a growing industry. A high-technology centre is beginning to develop on the Cape.
