Geography

Askatana is located on the far Northwestern extension of the Ajaskir Continent. The Farwest Islands extend from mainland Askatana westward, bounding the Herring Sea. Coniferous forests in the south and around the wstern coasts give way to subarctic prairies further north, and then to tundra on the northernmost coastal lands. The interior is also home to many high and forested mountains.

At 1,717,855 km² in area, it is a relatively large colony, but it is sparsely settled by such a small population.

History

Seirm Novân's expedition charted Askatana's sothern coast and some of the Farwest islands while en route to the Five Pacifics. When the Kiravian Empire had attained the neccessary rescources, it began settling Askatana. At first, the only colonists were Ruskev traders, but about 25 years later, Kaskev, Saskev, Gërev, and Svenskev farmers and fishermen came to open stock ranges and to tap the vast fish rescources of the Herring Sea.

The area was officially chartered as an Imperial Colony in 21156. The fishing and mining sectors, as well as tourism, have fueled the local economy, as well as added to slow population growth.

People

738,244 people live in Askatana.

Distribution

The southern coasts are home to the major cities (Forestbay, Jeanna, Icebay, Coldfir), while the interior is dotted with smaller boroughs and villages such as Ten Firs, Brookrange, New Messina, and Bearwood. On and around the northern coasts, native villages and fishing settlements predominate. The Farwest Islands also contain many fishing towns, but also KE naval ports and airbases.
